DIY Aztec Can Planters
Are you looking for an easy cheap way to transform your boring planters? Then, we have the solution. All you need is to clean your left over food cans and use your creativity! We chose to spice up our office by making an aztec pattern and planting cacti. But remember, be creative! You can use different colors and patterns, and even choose to put your pens in it if you don't have a green thumb.  What do you need? - Cans - Spray Paint - Paint Marker - Plants and soil (or pens or whatever you want to put in your cans) Step 1: Remove the paper and clean the cans Step 2: Spray the paint on the cans. Be sure to put down a piece of cardboard and preferably do it outside to not get your place dirty. Step 3: Once the paint is totally dry, take your magic painter and start to draw a pattern on it. You can find inspiration for patterns on Pinterest if you need some help. Step 4: Plant your choice of plant and voilà, recycling at its best!

Day 1 Wrap of the Volcom Pipe Pro
Banzai Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii (January 29th, 2015): As the sun came up on the first day of the 2015 Volcom Pipe Pro waiting period, it didn’t take long for contest officials to fire off the first announcement of the event. The wind and waves were cooperating nicely and the competition was called on with an 8:00am start. The all-Hawaiian Round of 112 saw nothing but epic Pipeline conditions from start to finish, and the highlight of the day was the Volcom Last Chance Qualifier (VLCQ) heat where 8 Pipe veterans delighted the crowd with mind-blowing Pipe and Backdoor barrels. The Round of 96 started strong, but by the 4th heat the wind changed and conditions quickly deteriorated causing the contest to be put on hold and eventually called off for the day. Landon McNamara - Photo: Bielmann The Round of 112 was stacked with some of Hawaii’s most exciting Pipeline specialists, and they did not disappoint. Makai McNarmara quickly got things started with a few steep and deep backdoor barrels which certainly got the crowd’s attention. Reef Macintosh threw down the highest total heat score of the round with a total of 14.40. When the Round of 96 got underway, Brazilian Hizunome Bettero showed no fear as he was threading the needle on a gem scoring one of the day’s highest single wave scores, an 8.93. Bruce Irons - Photo: Bielmann The most exciting heat of the day was definitely the VLCQ in which the one remaining wildcard spot in the event was on the line. The 3rd annual VLCQ was a 40 minute, 8-man heat in which veteran Pipe warriors Bruce Irons, Gavin Beschen, Alex Gray, Kawai Lindo, JD Irons, Kaimana Henry, Derek Ho and Makua Rothman battled it out in a best-wave, winner-take-all barrelfest. All 8 competitors locked into some amazing rides, but in the end it was Bruce’s 9.0 that secured his spot in the upcoming Round of 64. The contest will resume with the 5th heat of the Round of 96, and will continue into the Round of 64 where we’ll get our first look at past champions Kelly Slater and John John Florence. We are excited to see our two event wildcards, Balaram Stack (Long Island, NY) and Parker Coffin (Santa Barbara, CA) hit the water as well. Check back on VolcomPipePro.com tomorrow morning for the next call at 7:30am HST! Be sure to watch today’s Heats On Demand and check out the entire Day One Photo Gallery!

Back to Basics: The 8 Timeless Pieces You Shouldn't Live Without
Quick, check your closet! Do you own these wardrobe essentials? If not, here's your chance to catch up with this selection of our Volcom's basics. - A plaid shirt Ask not what you can do for your plaid shirt, but what your plaid shirt can do for you. The answer is this: you can incorporate it into your outfit and make it look laid back and casual but edgy at the same time. Layer it over a dress and you'll keep your tomboy look while throwing in a bit of sexy. - A grey T-shirt Although T-shirts come in different colors, it’s the grey ones that can be used with the greatest variety. Not that you’re supposed to wear them all the time, but during those days when you can’t put together a fabulous outfit and there’s somewhere important you need to go to, trust your design cut grey tee to create a stunningly simple you. - A black skinny jean Whether you wear them with boots for day or high heels for night, skinnies are a perpetual closet staple for every modern girl. - A cardigan Those breezy but not too cold days call for a lightweight cardigan to keep you warm. It also perfectly matches with dresses, shits, t-shirts and tank tops. - A black dress The little black dress or as it’s popularly called the LBD, is a must for every woman who doesn’t want to worry about what to wear during impromptu invites or dates. Choose the most flattering but classic cut for your body type and it can never go wrong. - A parka Even if you don't live in a cold climate, who's to say you won't visit New York City, the Rocky Mountains, or perhaps more realistically, a week in the Alps over the holidays? No matter what, the army inspired parka will always be in fashion. - A denim jacket Spring is coming and you can’t start it without a classic, comfortable denim jacket. It’s the hot sauce of spring layering, the item you can dash on top of nearly anything and improve it immediately. It goes with dresses, skirts, shorts, pants – whatever you can imagine. It’s perfect. - Hats Hats are the go-to items to create an effortless and cool look. They're also practical for protecting your face form sunburn under the sun and keeping your head warm in winter. Paired it with a sundress and sandals or with your favorite high-waisted skinny jeans, wedges and crop top and you're ready for markets, outdoor concerts, city walks and stops in the parks, and some...

210 competitors bombard Volcom's Blowfish Surf Series in sunny Southern California
The best way to start off a great contest weekend is with a good ole fashioned pre-event signup party, which we got underway in usual Volcom TCT style. Friday afternoon the crew rolled into Hansens Surfboards in Encinitas and before we knew it the BBQ was fired up, the Groms were playing games of skate, and the good times were a plenty. After signing up half of the overall competitors in 2 hours everyone was amping and couldn’t wait for Saturday. Especially after taking a peep at the swell forecast. Yeah, so it was this good... The next morning bright and early we rolled in the Seaside Reef parking lot to see what we already expected, really fun looking, consistent surf. The day was looking up from the start. Right behind our convoy was a plethora of frothing Groms ready to help get the event site set up and get the heats in the water! First up was the Juniors division, and they made it known theirs was an act that was going to be tough to follow. There was such a great turnout we ran double beach heats from the first one almost all the way through the day. Seaside Reef always brings a multi-talented group of frothing Groms, Levi Slawson and firecracker hair are in the category! We pushed on through the day with tons of great waves throughout, and equally high scores to match. One thing can be said about the Blowfish Surf Series at Seaside Reef, it lacks no showing of great surfers chomping at the bit. Mother Nature blessed us with calm winds, bright sunshine, and consistently good surf all day just to help. The surf continued to pump all day, Griffen Foy... Little dude big turn! Moving into the end of the day spectators lined the seating area by the guard tower and packed the beaches to see what the remaining competitors had left in the tank. This was surely going to be an action packed finals all the way around! The Reef was firing and Palli’s was pumping as well, everyone was frothing. The rocky beach setup at Seaside always make for a great viewing arena. When it was all said and done Evan Gallen left with the grape juice shower for the crowd favorite Squids division, while Griffen Foy took top honors in the shredding Groms divison. Moving on Kirra Pinkerton snagged a win in the highly contested Girls division. Our final two divisions saw an always ripping Kei Kobayashi come over from Hawaii to snag the top honors in Juniors to seal up a seat at champs, and a very elated and ever deserving Kevin Schulz drenched in sparkling grape juice with a cool $500 to take home for the win in the Pro-Am division. Jonah Carter fins out and giving the right the ole "going over." Many thanks go out to everyone for coming down and making this years Volcom TCT Blowfish Surf Series, yet another great event. Thank you to our sponsors and also Hansens Surfboards for the continued support and we look forward to what’s next! Our good friends at Wienerschnitzel provided lunch for all 210 competitors and then some! When the surf is this good it's fun to see the groms using their power game. Jack Boyes on the backhand. Hair-reverse anyone?? So he was going really really fast. Carlos Carpenter hits the e-brake. The groms at Seaside are so rad we had to Watermelon Award them twice! Isiak Day and Cal Corn smiles for miles. How can you not love the Squids division, these kids are the future! Here are you Blowfish Surf Series Squids division winners, full froth. You mind surf, Griffen Foy will make it reality. If this spread doesn't make you want to reach the finals, nothing will. The end sections of a Seaside Reef wave provide a perfect canvas for any finishing maneuver. Kadin Panesi showing us the ropes! Kei Kobayashi, Griffen Foy, Kirra Pinkerton. Winner, Winner, Winner. Chicken for dinner. Kevin Schulz, sweet turn, sweet lighting, sweet victory. Let it rain sparkling cider gods, let it rain. Kevin Schulz reaping the rewards.
