Week 19: The Oil Pans “Creepy Tales” | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 19: The Oil Pans - "Creepy Tales"   Grab the free download Born from the toxic runoff of Disneyland, The Oil Pans bring their foggy vibes to the Volcom studio for their first-ever recording of "Creepy Tales." "The concept behind The Oil Pans is that we're the sludge that collects in the oil,” says vocalist Squelch. "We're the discarded filth that slips through the cracks and stains the countless driveways and roadways. We're that imprint that never goes away." The Oil Pans formed in 2001. "We came together with the idea of playing bluesy, melancholic punk rock," says Squelch. Joining the frontman is guitarist Daniel Bush, bassist Marquies Kharinval, drummer Damian "Chocolate" Edwards, and organist Tony Santos. Together, these musicians have displayed a rigorous focus on live performance. "We have always been a theatrical band," explains Squelch. "Our hope is that the audience captures our presence with the absurd antics and leaves the venue with unanswered questions that may be fulfilled in times of turmoil and strife. Life is theatrics. We all play roles. The Oil Pans tend to portray the sadistic nature of everyday life through dense fog and shadow play." The relationship between Burger Records and The Oil Pans goes back to the mid-to-late '90s when Lee from Burger would hang out with the Four Letter Words. The Four Letter Words would play with The Noise which was Lee and Sean's band. Later, they would form The Make Out Party with Dan, and Burger would release their 1st 7-inch back in the primal stages of the record label. The lineage runs deeps between The Oil Pans and Burger Records. The Oil Pans conjure timeless dread on this song. "'Creepy Tales' is about war stories," Squelch tells us. "It's the way that men talk to each other with their over-inflated egos and far-fetched stories. It's the pounding of the chest, look-at-me scenario that rifles through the song." With this initial recording under their belts, The Oil Pans are primed for more recordings. According to Squelch, "The Oil Pans definitely want to go back into the recording studio with the intentions of releasing an EP or even a full-length LP." Week 18: Fatal Jamz "Heavenly Choir" | Volcom Cyber Singles Club
Burger Records x Volcom present Cyber Singles Club, features music from the newest breed of Burger Records stars in the making, recorded exclusively at Volcom Studio, and will be released for free download & streaming every Monday for 20 weeks beginning April 17th. Week 18: Fatal Jamz - "Heavenly Choir"   Grab the free download Fatal Jamz formed during a busy summer for singer Marion Belle. "I formed the project in 2013 in the middle of recording a record with Dan Horne (The Lilys + Beachwood Sparks) and a bunch of my favorite L.A. players," he says. "I had a group going at the time called Bowery Beasts and this record we were recording was going to be our second full length. It came out as something very different and it went from there into Fatal Jamz." The newly christened Fatal Jamz received some positive attention early on with a single. "I started producing singles with my friend Nic and we dropped 'Rookie' on the bandcamp and it immediately got a lot of love online," recounts Marion. "From that one song we got asked to tour with Sky Ferreira and Smith Westerns." Burger Records and Gnar Tapes released the debut Fatal Jamz album, Vol. 1 in 2013. "I met Sean and Lee initially through my friends at Gnar and The Memories," recalled Marion. "They have been very supportive, setting up shows and DJ nights. They are really the first people to give the music a platform which I've always appreciated. It's been easy and cool to be apart of what Burger's been doing, which is obviously historic." "Heavenly Choir" is the first new Fatal Jamz song since releasing Coverboy in 2016 on Lollipop Records. If you are picking up a dark romantic vibe, you aren't misled. "In my songs I'm the lord of the dark garden of dreams," explains Marion. "I live for romance and the danger of love." "Heavenly Choir" may in fact signal the direction for future Fatal Jamz. "I wanted to write something very blood, red and gothic," says Marion. "It ended up being a new kind of anthem for us and maybe unlocking a new direction for the next record."
